Ben-Hur Uribe is an award-winning Director, Writer, and Producer. He has written and directed several short films, including the award-winning Por Amor, which screened at both national and international film festivals. His follow-up film, Alonso, The Dream and The Call, was awarded an Illinois Arts Council grant and will be released in the fall of 2009. In addition, he is the author of the Latino film section of the Oxford Encyclopedia of Latinos and Latinas in the USA, and his still photography has been exhibited at the Museum of Contemporary Photography in Chicago.

Though born in Burbank, California, Mr. Uribe was raised in Mexico until the age of 9. Eventually, his family settled in Chicago in the 1970’s. He received his BFA from NYU and his MFA from Columbia College at Chicago. It was Mr. Uribe’s experiences in community organizing and his involvement with a community newspaper that deepened his understanding of the human condition and inspired him to tell stories through film. Presently, he resides in Chicago with his nine-year-old son and is preparing his first feature film.
